Blended families and co-parenting — finding strategies to work together effectively
What to Expect in Family Counselling
At Tutum Counselling, we tailor sessions to your family’s needs. Depending on your goals, sessions may include:
One parent and child
Parents only
The entire family
Our skilled therapists create a safe, inclusive environment where everyone has space to speak and be heard. We focus on identifying unhealthy patterns, building strong communication, and fostering healthier relationships for lasting change.
This is a collaborative process. Every family member is encouraged to participate, but we understand that not everyone may be comfortable attending every session. We work with you to ensure therapy is meaningful, supportive, and beneficial for your entire family.
Frequently Asked
Questions
It depends on your family’s goals! Sometimes it’s the whole family, and other times just certain members (like parents and one child). Your therapist will help decide what makes the most sense.
Yes — parents play an important role! Depending on the situation, sessions may include parent-only time, child-only time, or the whole family together.
That’s okay — it’s common! We can still start with the members who are ready, and sometimes that alone helps shift things for the whole family.
If you feel stuck in the same patterns, have constant tension, or just want a better way to communicate, family counselling can help. You don’t need to wait for a crisis to get support.
Our family counselling sessions are $200 for 50 minutes. This rate is lower than the recommended fee guidelines set by the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) and the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW). We’ve chosen to keep our fees below the provincial standard so that counselling remains more affordable and accessible for families in Calgary and the surrounding area.
